We know we don't have all of the answers in house. When we need to probe an issue in more depth it is invaluable to be able to turn to the toxicologists, material scientists, educators and concerned moms on the front lines. They also play a vital role in raising the profile of the health and environmental issues we are are addressing. Our goal from the start was to create the most rigorous and appropriate health and environmental standards in home furnishings design. We have done that in large part from the guidance of the group below. Below is our list of Q Collection Junior advisors: Eric Chivian, MD, Founder and Director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment Harvard University
Eric is the founder and Director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment, the first center at a medical school in the United States focusing on the human health dimensions of global environmental change. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In 1980, he co-founded (with Professors Bernard Lown, Herbert Abrams, and James Muller) International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, recipient of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize. During the past 14 years, Dr. Chivian has worked to involve physicians in the United States and abroad in efforts to protect the environment, and to increase public understanding of the potential human health consequences of global environmental change. He has held briefings and courses for the U.S. Congress; has been a consultant to the U.S. State Department, the Department of Defense, NOAA, NASA, and the EPA; and has advised the Environmental Ministers of the G8 nations on the health impacts of global climate change. Dr. Chivian has lectured widely in the U.S. and abroad, and has appeared on national television and radio and in the print media in several countries. He has over 40 publications. His area of interest is the human health consequences of habitat degradation, species loss, and ecosystem disruption. Linda Greer, PhD - Senior Scientist & Health Program Director, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Linda E. Greer, Ph.D., directs the Health Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). She focuses on large sources of toxic chemical pollution as well as the scientific controversies in determining whether chemicals cause harm. Linda has done technical work associated with environmental advocacy, legal, and policy matters since 1981. Dr. Greer is the author of over a dozen technical and policy articles on environmental matters and has frequently testified before the U.S. Congress. She has a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology, a Masters Degree in Public Health, and a Bachelors degree in Biology. Over the course of her career, Dr. Greer has been appointed to many expert panels and commissions, including the National Academy of Sciences Board of Life Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Emerging issues, and the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board Executive Committee, as well as dozens of other technical and policy advisory groups. Daniel C. Esty - Director, Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy; Associate Dean, Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies; Professor, Yale School of Law
Dan Esty is a world leader in environmental law, policy and business. The World Economic Forum named him one of 100 "Global Leaders of Tomorrow". Prior to Yale, he served in a variety of positions at the US Environmental Protection Agency, where he negotiated several international agreements on behalf of the US, including the 1992 Climate Change Convention. He is the author or editor of numerous books and articles on the relationships between environmental protection and trade, competitiveness, economic integration, global governance and security. He currently sits on the Unilever Environmental Board. In addition to being a Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Esty holds a JD from Yale Law School. Dan's latest book is Green to Gold: How Smart Companies Use Environmental Strategy to Innovate, Create Value, and Build Competitive Advantage Reid Lifset - Associate Director of the Industrial Environmental Management Program and a member of the faculty at the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
Reid did his graduate work in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in management at Yale University. His research focuses on the application of industrial ecology to novel problems and research areas, and the evolution of extended producer responsibility.He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Industrial Ecology, an international quarterly on industry and the environment, headquartered at and owned by Yale University and published by MIT Press. He has served as a consultant to the Science Advisory Board of the U.S. EPA, and is a member of the governing council of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE), the Science Advisory Board of Material Flow Analysis for Sustainable Resource Management (MFAStorM) of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) and the editorial advisory board for the Kluwer book series on Eco-efficiency in Industry & Science. Gwyneth Paltrow, Actress
Gwyneth is an award-winning actress with a particular interest in raising awareness around the issues of children's environmental health. In addition to raising her two children and many other activities, Gwyneth serves on the board of the Robin Hood Foundation, a charitable organization which attempts to allieviate problems caused by poverty in New York City. She is also the face of Estée Lauder's Pleasures perfume (a minimum of $500,000 of sales are donated to breast cancer research each year). |
